  • Soy Wax Price Increases

I almost fell off my chair today when we received our new soy candle wax bill!

In just a few weeks WSP costs (for PureSoy, Advanced Soy and Pillar Soy) have gone up over 25%.

I know that soy prices are increasing but I am unclear as to why they are going up so quickly for this single vendor. They say that the are increasing prices daily based on the "commodity" market.

    Therefore effective immediately:

    1. We have asked the manufacturer of the above waxes to give us the specific commodity market (soy oil, soy wax, etc.) they are using so we can validate our industry is not being gouged.
    2. We have increased our website prices to reflect increase in costs.
    3. We are bringing back Cargill's C-3 Soy Container Wax (has a much lower price).
    4. We will continue to look for alternative Soy Wax Sources.

    Debbie,

I have been using Golden Wax 464 and Golden Wax 474 for my soy wax needs. Perhaps they are worth checking out. I purchase these in 50# boxes from my current supplier.

  1. Thanks! I will check them right away!

I only use EcoSoya Advanced and simply cannot afford to pay over $60.00 for 50 lbs anymore. I will probably have to raise prices on my candles but for now, am buying from a different company that sells that brand a little bit cheaper...for now. Maybe I will have to discontinue making candles for good. People will not want to pay inflated prices, sadly.

The reason that soy wax went up so high was because there was a BAD crop of soy beans last summer due to lack of rainfall. I'm surprised you didn't hear about it, especially since you live where soybeans are grown....

You might also want to check out GB415 pure soy. I have used it exclusively for almost 8 yrs and have found it to be consistent and have a great throw.

There are two ethanol plants within twenty miles of where I live. I am sure that the price of soybeans, corn and wheat are going to go up a lot in the coming months because of the manufacture of ethanol. Not only is the price of soy wax going to go up, but so is the price of food. We haven't seen the end of the increase in the price of wax. I am sure that your supplier is anticipating this and the other soy wax manufacturers will probably do the same.

Yikes! I use soy pillar wax for batik and I teach it all over the country. I just received 50 lbs and if I had known, I would have ordered double the amount. boo hoo. Thanks for keeping us informed.

I don't make candles, but where I am in SW Missouri and in most of the state, the rain during the summer was the opposite problem of Tallulahs. We had great rain, after almost 6 years of sparse Spring rain and Summer droughts and not much of Fall rain or snow either. Our rain was so constant, almost every other day for at least 3-4 hrs, that when soybean planting time came, the ground was too wet. And the winter cover crops were so late getting harvested because of the rain. So most soy in MO was a bust. That's what I observed and what several county Farm Bureaus said too.
