  • Autism & Alternative Medicine

I ran into Patti, a neighbor, at a party a few weeks ago. She told me about her son that was diagnosed with a terrible lung condition similar to Cystic Fibrosis. She said they gave him no hope for cure and limited hope for living any sort of a normal life. She prayed for an answer and through research was directed to “Dr. Cheryl”.

Dr. Cheryl is a board certified family practice doctor that has a special interest in alternative medicine as it relates to allergy treatment. After a year of seeing Dr. Cheryl and participating in holistic therapies, her son is cured….even her specialists have agreed it is an amazing change.

In speaking with Patti, she told me that Dr. Cheryl successfully treats many children with autism. She encouraged me to visit Dr. Cheryl and ask questions. She told me that parents and their children affected by autism, travel from 22 different states to visit Dr. Cheryl. We are quite lucky because she is only 2 miles away!

I called to make an appointment and spoke with a wonderful older man. He stated that Dr. Cheryl has treated his grandson for the past year. His grandson did not speak before treatment and now speaks 5 word sentences. He went on to tell me that he believes so much in Dr. Cheryl that he drives 3 hours, twice a week to volunteer in her clinic.

I asked about these alternative therapies. He talked to me about treating an over growth of yeast in the gut, a special lotion that removes metals from the body, as well as others. He referred me to the site Generation Rescue for information.

With feelings of caution and fear of another disappointment, I made an appointment for my daughter in mid May.

Even as I write this, my mind dances with the “what if” she may be able to speak even one word. As a mother, I owe her….no stone can be unturned.

    I will keep you posted.

I get RSS feeds for your blog and this caught my eye today. I have an online friend whose granddaughter has autism - I'm going to pass this along to her.

And good luck with that appointment - I hope all goes well.

    Hi Debbie,
My two youngest have ASD. Tristan's ASD is considered 'classic Autism'. It began when he was 18 months old. At age 3, he was a '37' on the spectrum, meaning 'mild to moderate ASD, bordering on severe. Today, he'd be considered 'mild to moderate' and be on the lower end of the spectrum. He's currently mainstreamed into Kindergarten, and is doing well! Marlin's ASD falls in the 'mild to moderate' range. He's 4, and attends a great preschool program where he is one of 4 students. He'll be mainstreamed into the regular preschool beginning next fall. He went from kicking, scratching, and biting the teachers DAILY to being a polite (though passionate!) little boy. Imagine the feelings that wash over you when your child's teacher reports, beaming with pride in you child, that he no longer bites (only kicks and scratches), and that his screaming, flailing fits only last 1/2 hour per 2+1/2 hr. school day. JOY! JOY! Seriously. :-) My boys are on the waiting list to be enrolled in Mayo Clinic's DANA program. I'm so excited to find out what else we can do to help the boys! If you ever want to chat, just let me know! I love to share stories of how my children have blessed my life. I'm willing to bet that you've got some, too. Have a GREAT day,
    Lisa
