We are getting fairly close to publishing our new website. One recent suggestion is that our Resource Library needs to include "Glossary of Ingredients". With this they wanted to know the source of the ingredient, if it was natural, and purpose.

I need your help. Is there anything else you feel this page should include?

What ingredients would you like listed?

I appreciate your help!

    Hi,

It is being built on our new website. The site should launch in the next few weeks.

I am seeking things customers may want added. One suggestion was a glossary of ingredients. What they are, what they do, etc.

I am seeking more ideas as well as what information you would want on chemical ingredients.

    Debbie

On certain things I like to know if they are water soluble, oil soluble, etc. Or just dispersable.

Maybe add shelf lives for ingredients? It would be especially helpful for oils.

I'd like to read about all of the ingredients that make up the base products. Their origin & their purpose. Thank you for always making such a wonderful effort for your customers.

I think it would be a great idea to include storage instructions for the different products. I've heard of some people storing different items in their garage/outbuilding instead of an environment with a consistent temperature. It would be nice for those who don't know any better.

All of the previous comments are great ideas. I would add the INCI names if you weren't already planning on it.

Side note: for your packaging items...I would love to know the recycled material content.

I agree on a lot of the other's points. It would be nice to know the shelf life of a product as well as if a preservative needs to be added on certain products. Also, if a preservative is added, a note on whether the shelf life is extended further, etc. I realize on your fragrance oils you have expiration dates on the bottles themselves, but notes on that shelf life when purchasing as well as other items would be great.

Since we are working with chemical type ingredients, an MSDS (Material Safey Data Sheet) should be available for each product, which includes all the information made available to health care professionals such as ingredients, antidotes, flash points, safety precautions. Here is some information:

It is important for us to have ingredients, but also MSDS available for chemicals and country of origin, free trade, organic, ect info if available. That would be a big help.

Yes on MSDS sheets, I make my own scrubs etc for our beauty shop and MSDS sheets are required by law. That would be soooo awesome to have it with all the base ingredients.

I want to second (or third) the idea of info on if an additive is water or oil soluble...i wonder that ALL the time and find it hard to figure out. It would help me greatly in my feable, newbie attempts at formulating.

All the other points about shelf life, MSDS sheets, and details on ingredients in the bases would be great too...for instance, i'd like to know if the stearic acid is veggie based or not...if this or that is vegitable derived, natural, or synthtic. How much of the mp base is syndet or not? info like that. Thanks!!

Suggestion for new website: I would like the pH of all soap bases to be listed.

    Thanks

I am not a professional soaper, so I do not always know what is meant by some of the terms, labels, or abbreviation that are used. I understand that it can get tedious but please take pity on us who are learning.

I would like to see a "Works Well With" comment next to mixing ingredients. I waste product sometimes tyring to experiment and some helpful suggestions would be helpful.

As well as a "Works Well With", how about a "Does Not Work Well With".

I definatly would like a list of INC names. I had a website that I would go to when making labels just so i would have the INC names for my products. That is always helpful.

Debbie, I love all the comments and agree, but I just had to let you know about this book I purchased when I decided to begin making natural cosmetics as a guide, you may already have it, but here goes "A consumer's dictionary of cosmetic ingredients" by Ruth Winter, MS, this is a must have for all product makers. This lady is an authority on ingredients, their uses orgin, derive from, how used, etc, etc and she shows where she got this information & credits the findings. She has issued a dozen different books and this particular one is of the 6th edition revised and updated. It's A-Z name, other names known as and terms used on labeling as well as abbreviations. I know as a researcher like myself, you will use this book over and over again or maybe one of the dozen this lady has put together. I love all the other ideas too and I think this book would really save you alot of time.

I would love, love, LOVE to have a glossary here if ingredients and useful info associated with it like is it natural, where did it come from, what is it good for, what are the benefits. These things make me more knowlegable for great product marketing and informing customers who specifically ask these things! As of now I am going to other sites to get this info. I would love to have it all here. Now if I could only get my amber plastic bottles (please bring them back), jars and pumps here I wouldn't go anywhere else!
