Association of Artisan Businesses
Association of Artisan Business (AAB) is a national non-partisan, professional organization whose mission is to assist individual artisans in reaching their full business potential while also promoting awareness of the artisan business community to the public, government agencies and elected officials.
This association compliments associations such as the Handcrafted Soap Guild, National Candle Association, and the National Confectioners Association. While these trade associations address product and production issues, the AAB provides members with “big business” resources and a collective voice.
I personally feel that Association of Artisan Businesses is vitally important because it provides the missing link in helping artisans reach their full business potential while promoting the benefits of purchasing artisan products across America. It is time for artisans to stand up with one unified voice. It is time that artisan businesses are taken seriously as financial contributors to households and the general economy.
The association will be accepting new members the first week of 2009. Below is a summary of membership levels. The end of this blog post gives a link for a newsletter. The newsletter will allow you to get information such as membership availability, membership discount opportunities and vendor advertising opportunities.General Membership is available to all individuals and businesses hand producing artisan products. December Holiday Hours
A quick reminder that Wholesale Supplies Plus has the following holiday hours:
December 22 & 23 - Closed to Public for Warehouse Maintenance
December 24, 25, 26 - Closed for Holiday
December 29, 30, 31 - Closed to Public for Inventory
January 1 - Closed for New Year Holiday
January 2 - Open for Business
During these times, we will have limited customer service staff answering the phones. For the most part, they will be working in the warehouse so that we can minimize the length of time we are not shipping orders.
Our website will remain open and taking orders. Once we resume shipping, we will ship orders by the date they were placed. Oldest orders will be shipped first.

Must Read - Good News for Us (FDA Act)
It is with absolute delight that I am making this post today. It should put to rest many customer concerns. For those that believe in Christmas….it is a very nice gift!
Virgil Miller has been one of our Washington contracts regarding the FDA Globalization Act of 2008. He was the staff member assigned to writing, drafting and revising the language in the bill. He has been a valuable contact for me in terms of providing background, focus and time lines for this discussion draft. He is the person that confirmed Congressman Dingell (Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee) wanted the FDA Globalization Act of 2008 fast tracked and made into a formal bill in January 2009.
I spoke with Virgil yesterday and was given this update:- He thanked me for the cooperation and insight provided by Wholesale Supplies Plus and her customers.
- He confirmed that at the start of the next congressional session, Congressman Waxman will be replacing Congressman Dingell and taking over as Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee.
- He confirmed that Congressman Waxman will set the priorities for Energy and Commerce Committee. Those priorities will be announced in late January or early February 2009.
- He confirmed that there will be no further work on the FDA Globalization Act of 2008.
- He informed me that he will be leaving the office at the end of the month.
I noted today that the government website for informing the public about the FDA Globalization Act of 2008 has been removed.
There is some talk that Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-ILL) will try to introduce new cosmetic legislation in 2009. Here is an article referencing her intentions going back as far as Sept. 2008.
All in all, this is very good news for our industry. The FDA Globalization Act of 2008 has been significantly stalled….if not killed all together.
Together, lets give a big cheer and get back to growing our businesses!

I came across the site UPS Regift and it made me smile...BIG!
Here is the scoop: Take an item you would like to re-gift. Add your item to the gallery and send an email to the person you would like to re-gift. If the recipient doesn't want the gift...they can re-gift it to someone else via email. When someone finally wants it, you are sent their address and then you arrange shipping.

Order Processing Times
I am getting feedback that craftshows, home parties and fundraisers are doing very well this year. Our lead times are running 3-4 days. Staff will be working this weekend to pack and pull orders.
