Shea Aloe Butter - Information Update

The manufacturer of this product notified us that they failed to previously provide us with a complete "Statement of Ingredients" list for the Crafter's Choice Shea Aloe Butter. They were misinformed of the current and correct FDA label requirements for this product and now that they are aware of the requirements, they have provided all of the information.

    The correct INCI list is:

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Fruit, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Stearate, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Potassium Sorbate, BHT, Sorbic Acid

I have updated our site with the complete information. In light of the complete ingredient list, I have removed this product from our "Butter" page and placed in on our "Lotion" page.

The manufacturer was a twit on this one for sure.

I must say, though, now that it's been moved to lotions .. it has one of the BEST ingredient lists I've ever seen on a lotion. It has lots more shea and lots more aloe than most other lotions. And I already know from using it in the past how well it moisturizes and how long the moisture stays on the skin!

It may no longer be a "butter" .. but as a lotion, it's a FABULOUS lotion!!!!

Does this mean you do not have to add an additional preservative?

    Hi,

If you are adding fragrance and color, there is enough preservative.

What about when being used in a scrub, and water will likely be introduced? Is additional preservative needed?

  1. Debbie May says:

You would need to do testing for this application. The product really isn't designed to be a scrub. It is VERY thick.

i'm very disappointed. that's a big difference in ingredient. i knew the texture was different than the one i previously had.

  1. Wow, that is a pretty big ommission.
I can't believe they didn't add all of the chemicals to the ingredients before-seems a bit more than just "misinformed".
Thanks for moving it out of the butter heading Debbie.

This is the same one we have always carried. In fact it is the same many others are stocking online as Shealoe.

I pressed the manufacturer how the aloe juice (water based) blends with the shea butter (oil based). They finally released the entire ingredient list.

He has stated that when they applied for INCI they did not need to list all of the other stuff. I was not in the business then so I cannot say.

I am not here to judge. I am here to advocate for my customers and my business. Please know...we did not hide anything. We gave what the manufacturer gave us.

I'm confused. First of all is the product consistency changed? and if I already own this ingredient and am still using it in my products do I change my labels? I have most of a pound left, purchased this past winter so does this have the listed ingredients from the new memo in it?

    Debbie-

This same type of problem has recently come to light with another supplier and their cosmetic-grade avocado oil. How can we know for sure what is in the products we buy? Can you ask your manufacturers for new/updated INCI's or reassurances of the accuracies of current ones? I appreciate your advocacy for your customers and look forward to any other information you may have regarding what exactly is in cosmetic-grade oils.

    Thanks,
    Stephanie

Adulterated cosmetic oils have been a problem with some importers for years. We do our own spot testing and have pretty much weeded out the good importers from the bad. Things go so bad a while back (in the Olive Oil industry) that many members went to prison in Italy for selling fake oil.

You have to count on your supplier being diligent.
